Should you release Cazador's spawn? ›

Having another powerful ascendant vampire in Cazador's place is also a general threat to the world at large, and all the vampire spawn sacrificed for the ritual are killed for a fundamentally nefarious purpose.

Release the Spawn

In general, this is the most recommended option, as Astarion will order his brothers and sisters to send the spawn to Underdark, where they can be safe from sunlight and have plenty of food, so they will not harm and terrorize the citizens of Baldur's Gate.

Getting to him and defeating him is another story, so you should definitely consider waiting until you're level 12 to go after him. If you're ready, head to the Lower City Central Wall Teleport Sigil, then ascend the tower that it's embedded on.

When in doubt, the solution to any Baldur's Gate 3 problem is to shove. But Cazador has grown wise to this tactic. So, as per the new update, pushing him off a ledge won't kill him. Cazador suddenly remembered he can turn into mist and fly, so he'll no longer give up the ghost if he falls into a chasm.

If Astarion ascends, he loses all that character development and goes back to how he was when players first met him after the Nautiloid crash, but with the added evilness, hunger for power, and controlling demeanor. If the player chooses to prevent him from ascending, he later thanks them for saving him from himself.

To free Astarion, one of your party members needs to use the Help action on him, thus freeing him up to fight and permanently removing his contribution to Cazador's buff. If you don't free Astarion, Cazador will complete the ritual after a few turns, killing Astarion permanently, so make freeing him a priority.

If you choose to free the spawn, Astarion will use the staff to open the cells of all seven thousand spawn trapped in the dungeon.

If you choose to let Astarion go through with the ritual, he asks you to link your minds so you can see the runes on his back and copy them onto Cazador. It's brutal, but it works. Pretty much all of your party disagrees and disapproves, but if you let him continue, he gains new powers.

Instead, if the player wishes to keep Astarion from going through with it, the protagonist must tell him that the ritual will kill many people and that Astarion will not be proud of what he has done. Of course, Astarion will still kill Cazador, but he will be glad that he didn't become a Vampire Ascendant.

Cazador's main weakness is Sunlight Hypersensitivity. If caught within light at the start of his turn, Cazador suffers 20 Radiant damage and has a Disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks. This weakness alone is enough to tip the scales in your favor.

Do I give Astarion blood? ›

If you plan to make Astarion a permanent part of your party, you should consider letting him suck your blood for the Happy buff. This buff will add a +1 to all his checks. He will also permanently gain the Vampire Bite action in battle.

Also trapped in the cells are the children of the Gur tribe in Rivington, from the "Investigate Cazador's Palace" questline—though you won't be able to rescue or kill them either.

You do an insight check, and discover Astarion doesn't really WANT to be Cazadon, so you talk him down "off the ledge" so to speak, he cancels the ritual, frees his bretheren, and frees all the prisoners. This is the GOOD choice for Astarion himself, but a quite evil choice for freeing 7000 ravening vampires.

When you let Astarion drink your blood, you'll wake up with the Bloodless debuff. Until you long rest again, you'll have a -1 on all checks. The only way to avoid the debuff is to let him kill the character. You can always use a Scroll of Revivify the next morning or pay 200 to have Withers bring you back to life.
